Niamh Hynan

Niamh Hynan originally from Carbury, Co. Kildare graduated from Ballyfermot Senior College with a NCVA Level 2 Cert in Art, Design and Mixed Media and continued her education in Dublin Institute of Technology in 2002 with an honours degree in Fine Art. She completed her education in NCAD with a Post Graduate H. Dip in Art and Design Education. She has exhibited in a number of successful solo and group exhibitions in Dublin, Kildare, Galway and Clare. She is a member of VAI (Visual Artists Ireland) and ATAI (Art Teachers Association of Ireland)

Niamh’s art work explores gestural marks and energy in our environment with hints of both figurative and landscape subject matter. Many of the works present a dynamic centre of movement within the stable confines of a square shaped canvas. This creates a sense of tension and excitement. The shapes within the work tantalize, they are open to interpretation. An adventurous exploration of materials such as oil, varnish, pigment powder, bitumen, acrylic and fabric are used. There is a strong emphasis on the contrasts of texture, flat areas in vibrant washes of oil paint such as purples, ochres, crimson, prussian blue and greens are seen against areas of powder that are caught up in the varnish. The gestural sweeping marks with viscosity and seeping properties are explored in the paint.
